85.5 Million People are Predicted "Mudik" This Year, Dominated by Private Vehicles

The Ministry of Transportation predicts that the peak of the homecoming flow will occur on April 29-3, 2022.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Adita Irawati said the Ministry of Transportation predicts that 85.5 million people will return to their hometowns for Lebaran this year.

This number increased from the results of the previous two surveys, which were 79.4 travelers and 55 million people at the beginning of the measurement.

Adita added that the number of 85.5 million travelers was obtained from the results of the latest survey conducted after President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) gave the green light for Lebaran homecoming.

"It is understandable because in the last two years going home is not allowed. Of course, many people have missed their hometown, this is why the interest in going home will increase greatly," said Adita, in a virtual media briefing, Friday (8/4/2022).

Adita added that from the results of the latest survey with a total of 85.5 million travelers, 14.3 million came from the Greater Jakarta area.

Meanwhile, for the choice of transportation mode for the 2022 Eid homecoming trip, based on the survey results, land transportation will be dominated. The main ones are private vehicles, either cars or motorbikes, then followed by types of public transportation such as buses, travel, and others.

"The destinations for the provinces of origin for the biggest travelers are from East Java, Greater Jakarta, and Central Java. For the purpose of going home, as in previous years, the main cities are Central Java, East Java, West Java," he said.

The Ministry of Transportation predicts that the peak of the homecoming flow will occur on April 29-30 2022 between 07.00 WIB - 09.00 WIB and the peak of the return flow will occur on May 8.
