Ministry of Health Finds 4 Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 Subvariant Cases in Bali

The BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants are being watched over in a number of countries. Singapore even predicts a new wave of Covid-19 due to the Omicron subvariant.

The Indonesian Ministry of Health reported the findings of four cases of mutations of SARS-CoV-2 variant Omicron, namely BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants in Bali.

"The BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants have been found in Bali, four people have been affected," Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin told reporters, Friday (10/6).

BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants are being watched over in a number of countries, including Singapore. Singapore even predicts a new wave of Covid-19 due to the Omicron subvariant will occur in July 2022.

The Minister of Health ensured that his party had increased their vigilance by closely monitoring this new subvariant from Omicron. He suspects that this subvariant is immune to the Covid-19 vaccine.

However, Budi believes that currently the immunity of the Indonesian people is still quite high in fighting Covid-19. He revealed that antibody titers or a measure of the level of community immunity to Covid-19 in Indonesia increased significantly in March 2022.

In addition to antibody titers, Budi claimed that 99.2 percent of residents in Java-Bali already have immunity or antibodies against Covid-19 either naturally after being infected with the virus or through vaccination. According to him, the findings were obtained through sero surveys or seroprevalence. (Ministry of Health, antara)
