Jokowi in South Korea Discusses Electric Cars, Smart City at IKN, and KF-21 Fighter Jets

Jokowi stated that Indonesia is one of South Korea's important partners in East Asia.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) met with South Korean (South Korean) President Yoon Suk-yeol. One of the topics discussed at the meeting was cooperation in the development of the National Capital City (IKN) of the Archipelago.

The statement was made by Jokowi at a joint press conference as seen on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account, Thursday (28/7/2022). Jokowi stated that Indonesia is one of South Korea's important partners in East Asia.

"Indonesia and South Korea are special strategic partners and next year we will also commemorate 50 years of friendship between our two countries," said Jokowi.

Jokowi is confident that under the leadership of President Yoon, the partnership between South Korea and Indonesia will be even stronger. One of the priorities is partnership in the economic field.

"We welcome the trend of increasing bilateral trade and we agree to open market access to overcome trade barriers and promote superior products from the two countries," said Jokowi.


South Korea's investment in Indonesia

Jokowi said that South Korean investment in Indonesia is experiencing rapid growth. Especially in the steel industry, petrochemicals, electric vehicle batteries, electric cable industry, telecommunications, to renewable energy.

"In the meeting with President Yoon, I specifically encouraged investment cooperation from Korea, especially in the field of accelerating the development of the electric car ecosystem in Indonesia. Including the battery industry project integrated with mining and the automotive steel industry for electric vehicles," added Jokowi.

After that, Jokowi explained about the cooperation between South Korea and Indonesia in the development of IKN. One of them is related to the construction of a drinking water supply system.

"We have also started cooperation in the development of the new capital city of the archipelago, including cooperation in the development of drinking water supply systems, and capacity building in the field of smart city development," added Jokowi.

At the end of his statement, Jokowi expressed his gratitude for South Korea's support regarding Indonesia's G20 presidency. Jokowi is waiting for President Yoon to attend the G20 Summit in Bali.
