In January, only three countries banned the export of food. However, currently the number of countries implementing this policy has reached 22 countries.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the food problem is currently a problem that must be faced by many countries in the world, including Indonesia. This is because more and more countries have stopped exporting food for their own domestic needs.
"Be careful with matters of food, food production," said Jokowi during the Gathering of the Jokowi Team of Seven Volunteers at the E-Convention Ancol, North Jakarta, quoted on Sunday (12/6).
He said that in January there were only three countries that banned the export of food. However, currently the number of countries implementing this policy has reached 22 countries.
In fact, at this time Indonesia is also still importing food such as wheat, corn, and soybeans. As for rice, Jokowi said that Indonesia had not imported anything for three years.
"Be careful with the issue of rice, which we usually import two million tons, for the past three years we haven't imported rice at all," he said.
According to him, the increase in rice production is due to the many dams the government has built. To date, 29 dams have been completed. The government itself targets to build up to 65 dams.
Jokowi said that the current average price of rice in Indonesia is still Rp. 10,000. While in America, it has even reached Rp 52 thousand. He is also committed to maintaining the price of rice so that it does not increase. Jokowi said that the current increase in food prices was caused by the war in Ukraine and Russia. (Among)
