Jokowi Calls Formula E a Future Racing Event

President Jokowi hopes that in the future there will be more racing competitions such as Formula E.

President Joko Widodo witnessed firsthand the Formula E racing event which was held at the Formula E Circuit, Jakarta, on Saturday, June 4, 2022. President Jokowi was grateful that the electric car racing event was going well and considered it an event and spectacle for the future.

"Thank God everything went smoothly and well. I think this is a future event because we know that there will be a shift from current cars to more electric car users, so that this is a spectacle that I think will be more popular in the future," said the President in his statement after the event.

The Head of State also views that the racing event is also good for Indonesia, especially because in the future Indonesia will build an electric vehicle ecosystem. Starting from nickel as a raw material, smelters, lithium battery industry, to electric cars.

"I think the technology that is being shown in Formula E will also support that direction. Everything will go towards being environmentally friendly,” he added.

The President also stated that he would support all forms and efforts that were good for Indonesia, including the issue of the discourse that the Formula E race in Jakarta would be held in two series as in a number of other countries. According to the President, the central government also provides support in various forms.

"I think starting from the construction of the circuit, I also went down to see readiness, then also everything related to incoming goods, customs at the Ministry of Finance, then Menparekraf also I think all permits were issued, that's a form of support," he explained.

President Jokowi also hopes that in the future there will be more racing competitions such as Formula E.

“Yes, it's better, all circuits with more events will be more productive and better. If possible every week there will continue to be better. Every year 10 times, 15 times will be better," he said.

Previously, President Joko Widodo also handed over the trophy to the winner of the 2022 Jakarta E-Prix, namely Mitch Evans. The New Zealand racer who fought for the Jaguar TS Racing team finished in first position with a racing time of 48 minutes 28.424 seconds.

Meanwhile, French racer Jean-Eric Vergne from the DS TECHEETAH team took second place, while Edoardo Mortara from Switzerland from the ROKiT Venturi Racing team followed in third place. (setpres)
