BNPT Says Khilafatul Muslimin Group Appears to Take Advantage of Democratic Climate

The emergence of this group has the potential to be an act that can violate the law.

The head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) Commissioner General (Komjen) of Police Boy Rafli Amar invites the public to be more vigilant against the movement of the Khilafatul Muslimin group.

"The emergence of the Khilafatul Muslimin happened because they took advantage of the space for freedom of expression which is common in a democratic climate," said BNPT Head Komjen Police Boy Rafli Amar in a written statement received in Jakarta, Friday, June 3, 2022.

Boy stated that the emergence of the group has the potential to be an act that can violate the law. Therefore, collective vigilance is needed.

Boy assessed that the approach through law enforcement alone was not enough to prevent the spread of the caliphate ideology. Moreover, all parties need to build and strengthen collective awareness as a fundamental awareness mechanism.

One thing that needs to be emphasized is the awareness that Indonesia has four basic consensuses, namely Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

From the results of profiling and tracking the track record of the organization that has existed since 1997, it is known that a number of figures who had joined this group were found to be affiliated with a number of terrorist groups. For example, the Islamic State of Indonesia (NII) and Jamaah Islamiyah (JI).

"We know that their cells in this country exist. They say they are part of the activities (the caliphate campaign) whether they are related to JI, or Ansharut Daulah, NII," he explained.

He said if the existing cells take advantage of the free space and are left alone, they can mislead the public.

Therefore, Boy reminded all elements of society to be aware of and understand the character of the caliphate ideology. Moreover, the caliphate ideology is transnational or global in nature but also has network cells within the country. (bnpt, tempo)
