The PeduliLindung application has contributed to suppressing the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Siti Nadia Tarmizi responded to reports from the United States (US) indicating that the PeduliLindung application violated human rights, especially privacy.
"The accusation that this application is useless and also violates human rights is something that is not basic," said Nadia, quoted from the Health Ministry website, Friday (15/4/2022).
Nadia said the US report did not accuse PeduliLindung of violating human rights. He hopes that no party concludes that there has been a violation of human rights in the use of PeduliLindung.
"Let us carefully read the original report from the US State Department. The report does not accuse the use of this application of violating human rights. We ask that the parties stop twisting as if the report concludes that there was a violation," said Nadia.
Nadia said PeduliLindung has contributed to the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said the low spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia could not be separated from the use of the application.
"PeduliLindungi contributes to the low transmission of Covid-19 in Indonesia compared to neighboring countries and even developed countries. This application has a big role in suppressing the transmission rate when we experience Delta and Omicron waves," he said.
He said PeduliLindungi had prevented 3,733,067 people with red status (incomplete vaccination) from entering public spaces and had prevented 538,659 attempts of people infected with COVID-19 (black status) from traveling domestically or accessing closed public spaces. This figure is data from 2021-2022.
He said PeduliLindung contains clear application governance principles, including the obligation to comply with the provisions of personal data protection. The development of PeduliLindung also refers to the global agreement in the WHO Joint Statement on Data Protection and Privacy in the COVID-19 Response in 2020 which is a reference for various countries on the practice of using data and technology for COVID-19 health protocols.
