Jokowi Says 2023 Will Be a "Dark Year" for All Countries

Jokowi received news from the World Bank that 66 countries would collapse due to bad economic conditions.

President Jokowi predicts that 2023 will be a "dark" year due to the economic, food and energy crises due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Jokowi admitted that his prediction was citing discussions when he met the Secretary General of the United Nations, IMF leaders and G7 heads of state.

"They said, 'President Jokowi, this year we will be very difficult', 'Next year will be dark. This is not Indonesia, this is the world, be careful'" said Jokowi when opening the National Gathering of the Indonesian Army Retired Army Association at the Bogor Palace, West Java. , Friday, August 5, 2022.

Jokowi stated that he received news from the World Bank that 66 countries would collapse due to bad economic conditions.

The World Bank calculates details and now there are 320 million people in the world already in a position to suffer from acute hunger.

Jokowi said economic growth in several big countries such as Singapore, Europe, Australia and America had fallen. However, the derivative of people's income is actually offset by rising prices of goods and inflation.

Jokowi even said that the current world economic condition was at a dire stage.

"America, which usually increases goods or inflation by 1 percent, today is in the position of 9.1 percent, gasoline has doubled, Europe is the same," said Jokowi.

In Indonesia, Jokowi said that the government is trying to control fuel prices so that inflation does not occur. However, the consequences of this action made the subsidies disbursed by the government to swell, reaching Rp502 trillion. And no other country has the courage to provide subsidies of this magnitude.
